I recently moved from St. Louis to Chicago. It was a great move for me for several reasons. First, it's a one-hour flight or five-hour drive. In essence, a day trip! Second, I can get my "offspring" fix, run back to the house for something I forgot to bring, and get my girlfriend hugs which are so badly needed. Third, it is still possible to celebrate my hometown baseball team (World Champion St. Louis Cardinals) when they play against the current hometown team (Chicago Cubs) simply by placing myself within one mile of Wrigley Field (Chicago Cubs's stadium). There are celebrations on every corner and with each group, there are just as many red shirts (Cardinals) as there are blue (Cubs). I may never become a bonafide Cubs fan, but I will never turn down an opportunity to party when I can be with so many amazing Cardinal fans!
I live in Chicago, Illinois! Welcome to my new city!

It sounds like you are doing a great job of adjusting to the move, especially with a little help from your red-shirted friends.
I've only been able to visit Chicago once, but I loved the city and look forward to one day returning. It's is a great town.
