Gasp! It's Saturday Centus!

I love this weekly meme sponsored by Jenny Matlock. Each week, she gives us a prompt and challenges us to write a story using the prompt but no more than 100 words in length. I hope you enjoy it! (The prompt is in bold.)

Mom was a hypochondriac. She frequently acquired a deadly disease, which, of course, came with a tumor.

“When I die, I want to be buried in a fur coat and my red heels and nothing else!” she’d say from her deathbed(s).

“Okay, mom” I said. “I promise!”

That was twenty years ago. As I prepared for a move to the opposite coast, I began to clean out closets. In the corner of the master closet was a duffle bag that belonged to my dad. I had forgotten I had it. I opened the bag and pulled out a box. An involuntary gasp of shock escaped my lips when I opened the shoebox and saw the red pointy-toed shoes..."

“Uh-oh!”

I was smiling as the story began, but that didn't last for long - other emotions soon came rushing in. Nice write.

She frequently acquired a deadly disease.

Absolutely brilliant.

Love, love, loved the twist you took us on in this little journey through 100 words!

Really excellent writing.

Very creative! You do leave us with many questions...but alas, such is the fate with many a Centus...

This was an interesting text that leaves me with questions. I'm with Viki when I am wondering whether or not the mother is still alive or just got buried without the red shoes.
You imply that, since twenty years have passed and you have a duffle bag after the protagonist's father, both parents must be dead. If the father were dead and the mother were still alive, she would have the bag instead.
It's a good text.
Best wishes,
