Saturday Centus - Gotta Rake Those Leaves!

Once again, I had a brain-dead Saturday morning. I went back to bed, but please don't tell... I love this weekly meme sponsored by Jenny Matlock. Each week, she gives us a prompt and challenges us to write a story using the prompt but no more than 100 words in length. I hope you enjoy it! (The prompt is in bold.)

The early November sunshine cast golden rays upon the backyard leaves yet to be raked. As I poured my coffee I watched the deer slowly make his way across the yard. He had just assaulted the last of the mums, and was now searching for hidden delights below the leaves.

I laughed as I thought "I would never see this in Anaheim. I might see Mickey or Donald, but not a real Bambi!” I quietly walked to the deck and Tootsie ran ahead of me. She bolted down the stairs to the yard. As she hit the last step, there was nothing left but dust and leaves.

Please stop by Jenny's Saturday Centus and enjoy the creativity of others. They are all quick reads, so you won't lose too much time. Just click on the logo below.

I love to watch deer - as long as they stay out of my garden. :)

A great picture painted here! I'd love to see a real bambi in my garden - impossible of course!

Very nice description of a quiet moment at breakfast. Your protagonist has obviously moved from a more urban environment to the countryside. I like the comparision of the images of the commercial animals, 'Mickey and Donald' exchanged for real wildlife, 'a real Bambie'.
Nice Centus. You have put a lot into your 100 words.
Best wishes,

I loved this, you described the scene perfectly. We spent last night dodging Bambi all the way home from a friend's retirement party. In a 4 mile drive, we lost count at 20 deer. And those were just the ones we saw. They are magical creatures to watch. Beautiful use of the prompt. Kat

When it was very dry on Mt. Lemmon one year, the deer were coming down into the valley to look for water. We were stunned one morning to see one walking across a fairway to the pond. It was a beautiful sight.
Good post!!

This was wonderful. I loved the imagery of the deer in the yard. A lot of people wouldn't be so thrilled with it, ha. I still get excited when I see a real live Bambi around here.

You did a great job bringing me into the scene. I would far prefer to see the real Bambi, than the Disneyland one.

I could hear the rustling of the leaves as Bambi foraged for more goodies! This is so well written and concrete.

Thanks..........cj

I enjoyed this because we have deer near us in the hills, and many people have lamented their mums, among other things!

They are beautiful creatures, but they sure don't leave those gardeners alone!

=)

The word bambi briefly took me to the movie, 'My Cousin Vinnie' for a brief instant and then I was pulled back into your compelling and lovely imagery.

Thank you for a wonderful use of the prompt.

This has been such an enjoyable time reading all the creative works this week.
