What a great way for me to start my year out by joining fellow bloggers who are huge fans of SATURDAY CENTUS by Jenny Matlock. She is one hard-working woman with a great sense of humor and incredible writing talent. She sponsors several weekly memes, this being my favorite! She gives us a prompt and challenges us to write a short story of 100 words or less around that prompt. It's always a treat for me to read the creative pieces by other talented writers. This week's prompt is in bold.
She pulled out her crumpled up list of resolutions.
“I don’t know why I continue to make a list every year! By mid-month, I’ve checked off at least half of my good intentions” she said to herself. "I guess seeing it written down makes me own them a little more rather than losing them in the abyss of my brain. Maybe I could spread the list out over a year instead of trying to finish it all at once. Can you blame me for wanting to hold on to the joyful feeling that comes from another’s smile?"
“You look lovely!” she said to the elderly woman.

This was a lovely post. To make someone smile...now that is a resolution! I am now quite sorry I went macabre in mine!
What a wonderful idea for the prompt. One never knows just how happy a kind word can make someone.
Great job here...loved the phrase "losing them in the abyss of my brain." Know how many things I have floating there? A lot! :)

I really liked this, nothing better than bringing a smile to someone, especially when it's unexpected. I'm with Bookie, loved the line "the abyss of my brain" I hear that loud and clear! Kat
A nice take on the prompt!
I like how it changes from "resolutions" to "good intentions" that she crosses off. Could she be wrestling with lying on her list, but enjoys a smile from a "little white lie"?

That really seems like a good resolution/good intention to give compliments. People just don't do that much. I liked your idea for this prompt. I might have to think about doing this more ;-)

I like to make people smile too. I always smile and say hi to strangers. Then I wink and wave. Then I make loud grunting noises and scratch the ground with my feet while on all fours.
And yet they don't smile. Just run away in horror. Weird people, eh?

It is one I actually started about five years ago...I think it heals my heart even more than it warms a strangers!
