Saturday Centus - A Not So Sunny Day

I love Saturdays! I love Sundays, too, but on Saturdays, I know I have two more days until I'm back at work. I chuckled this morning as I read Jenny Matlock, Off on My Tangent. She said that she forgot to think of a prompt for today's morning ritual. Her very nice Mister volunteered the first thing that came into his head, which was from a highway sign coming closer to them. It read Exit 181, 1/2 mile ahead. I was in a bit of a funk this morning, so I waited until the afternoon to write my contribution. I'm still in a bit of a funk.

It was a sunny day, but I didn’t feel happy. I dressed, poured some coffee and then started the car. I thought about the fact that I was on my way to a funeral, and forgot to bring tissues.

“Brilliant!” I said to myself, “now I will have mascara dripping all over me. Good thing I’m wearing black!” While stopped at a red light, I found a fast-food napkin and quickly tucked it into my pocket. Once on the highway, I saw the church in the distance. The next road sign read Exit 181, ½ mile ahead. I arrived, saw the hearse, and lost it.

So good. And so true. I can't even tell you how many times I've had to use those old napkins as a kleenix.

I always forget to bring kleenex. Happily, my husband usually remembers. (Even though I'm the one doing the crying...)

I am one of those that always forgets the tissues for funerals, weddings, confirmations, etc... And also one of those who lose it easily.

Very good job ! So real... I too have a drippy, sniffy, teary eyed response to happy and sad occasions. Usually I dig for the take out stash of napkins in the glove box or console of our car. My Hubs is the back up...he always has a real linen handkerchief with him !

Now I'm in a funk...crying, funerals, hearses. Ok, just kidding. Good use of the prompt.
I hope you are feeling a bit cheerier by now.

What a wonderful take on this prompt! It is so visual - I could relate to her fear of the dreaded running mascara, and I could feel, really feel her pain. That makes for good writing.

Namaste..........cj

It was a funky weekend here, too. I'm glad yours got better! Your story was really sad. Was your funk from someone close passing away?

I liked your writing here. It made me want to give you a big hug.
